Another wonderful speech by the greatest president since World War II, according to the latest Quinnipiac poll. He gains in esteem more as lesser men take the helm.

Reagan always magnificently wove history into his speeches, and in this one he talks about the healed relationship of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, and how they always held close their work for this country.

One coda to the story. He mentions how both great men died on July 4. But as John Adams lay dying, his last thought, his last words were, “Jefferson still lives”. What love for the country that showed, what brotherhood with his common Founder.
