During a press conference Monday, Las Vegas Metro Sheriff Doug Gillespie said 36 rounds were fired at officers by a couple during a shooting rampage inside a Walmart two weeks ago.

On June 8, Jared Miller and his wife, Amanda, walked into a pizza parlor in northeast Las Vegas, and shot and killed officers Igor Soldo and Alyn Beck. The couple then walked to a nearby Walmart, and shot and killed Joseph Wilcox who tried to use his concealed weapon to stop the pair.

Much of what Gillespie revealed during Monday’s press conference expanded on details that were previously released following the shootings.

Gillespie said that when Jared Miller walked into the Walmart store, he shouted, “The revolution has started! The cops are coming! Get out!” When shoppers didn’t react, Jared Miller fired a single shot into the air.

After killing Wilcox, the sheriff said, the couple then walked back to the sporting goods section of the store, used a bat to smash open the ammunition case and replenished their cache of ammo, which already included armor piercing rounds.

Gillespie said that when officers moved into the store and began to surround the couple, one of the officers turned the corner of an aisle and was confronted by Amanda Miller. She pointed a gun at the officer, and the officer shot her in the shoulder.

When the couple, which was wearing adult diapers, was cornered, officers tried to engage them in conversation, Gillespie said. Jared Miller responded to the attempt with, “Stand down! You have failed! I’m in charge now!”

Eventually, Jared Miller was shot in the chest by officers and died at the scene. Amanda Miller shot herself in the head and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

Gillespie said that officers fired 16 shots at the Millers before the rampage ended.
