View Iraqi and Syrian Towns and Cities seized by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham in a larger map

As we’re talking about about the movement of ISIS in Iraq, I thought it might be helpful to put up this map of what they have captured so far so you can have a real sense of it. This was made by The Long War Journal folks, and was last updated yesterday. You can click on the link under the map for an enlarged version, a list of all the areas, and when they were seized. The red means areas held by ISIS, the yellow is contested-where there has been fighting, and the green indicates Kurdish area.

As you can see, there’s an ever-closing circle being made around Baghdad, just as ISIS threatened.
