Err, what?

On Hardball tonight, host Chris Matthews had an interesting take on the situation in Iraq and who is to blame. In lockstep with all his fellow MSNBC hosts, he can only blame the previous administration. But unlike other hosts, he seems to be confused about when that administration was actually in power.
“This war between Sunni and Shia has been going on for a thousand years,” says Matthews, before explaining that the situation is coming to a head in Iraq. He also lists a litany of grievances about the state of Iraq, all of which are, of course, former vice-president Dick Cheney’s fault and not any part of Barack Obama’s responsiblity. He then says that we should “not forget who created this hell on earth: the neocons and Dick Cheney, and his vessel George Bush.”
