Users of Earthlink, one of Iraq’s larger internet service providers, were greeted this morning with the message above while attempting to access social networking sites FaceBook, Twitter and MySpace. Yes, Iraq still uses MySpace, wanna fight about it?
Speculation abounds as to the reason, it suggests the Maliki government is trying to prevent insurgents from using the popular social media sites to coordinate attacks and/or spread disinformation and create chaos.
UPDATE: Youtube and Google have now joined the fracas and are banned as well
"@martinchulov: And down goes Google and Youtube. All main social media platforms now blocked in #Iraq #ISIS"
