With her campaign sputtering it was only a matter of time before she played the race card.

Wendy Davis, the Texas Democratic candidate for governor, says Republicans dislike “people who don’t look like them or come from where they come from.”

Video of Davis’ racially-charged remarks, which took place Friday evening at a Human Rights Campaign PAC fundraiser in Austin, surfaced on YouTube over the weekend.

Davis made the comments when talking about Republicans and the debate over immigration.

“You need look no further than what happened in Arizona with their anti-immigration bill and the withdrawal of tourism and the impact to their economy as a consequence of what ideological thinkers did to that state,” Davis said.

“And the same is true with the conversations that are going on in the…Republican convention right now,” she said. “They’re talking about whether they should soften their language on immigration, but we all know where they are because they’ve been talking about it on the airwaves for the last couple of months.”

“And we know what they really believe and think about people who don’t look like them or come from where they come from.”
