As Americans celebrate Memorial Day, a US Marine who served two tours in Afghanistan is rotting in a Mexican jail.
Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who has PTSD and recently moved to San Diego for treatment, took a wrong turn in his Ford pickup and crossed the border with three weapons on March 31.
Now the sergeant — a gunner who once saved three Marines trapped in a canal by mowing down insurgents from his turret — is facing weapons-trafficking charges and 21 years behind bars as he stews in a maximum-security prison 40 miles outside Tijuana.
“This is a man who fought for our freedom,” Tahmooressi’s mother, Jill, told The Post. “He’s an American hero; they [Mexican authorities] are treating him like a common criminal.
