A Kiel, Wis. native who was serving in the Army in Kosovo has died.

Scott Ruh tells WLUK-TV his 33-year-old daughter, Sgt. Heidi L. Ruh, died Friday. The military told the family she was fatally shot while on base, according to fox11online.

Ruh says officers came to his town of Newton home Friday afternoon with the news.

Joe Garvey, a spokesman with U.S. Army Europe, says her cause of death and circumstances are still under investigation.

The Associated Press reported Ruh’s body was found by a civilian at a running track at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, according to the Kosovo Force’s Multinational Battle Group-East.

Scott Ruh said his daughter had been in the Army for 11 years and was based out of Fort Hood, Texas. She worked in a medical unit, repairing surgical machines and volunteered to go to Kosovo in February.

The family plans a public memorial service once her body returns to the area.

Besides her parents, Ruh is also survived by two sons, ages 8 and 11.
