The unidentified remains of those killed at the World Trade Center were returned to the Ground Zero site during a solemn procession Saturday morning.

A police motorcade accompanied the remains during the five-mile trip from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on the East Side, to their eventual home in an underground repository in the same building as the National September 11 Memorial Museum.

The remains, which were transported in caskets draped by the American flag, were also followed by controversy, as a group of outraged 9/11 families turned out to protest the move, covering their mouths with black cloths to symbolize that they had been silenced.
