Conservative website Weasel Zippers lost its primary funding source, Google AdSense has canceled its agreement with the website because it says the site violated their terms of use by not generating enough original content. Weasel Zippers is an aggregator like Instapundit whose content consists of a short paragraph directing a reader to a key story elsewhere. Weasel Zippers offers readers the opportunity to spot the best news of the day (according to the site’s editors) without having to search the net and find it themselves.
Instapundit is a conservative aggregator site running AdSense advertising — however unlike Weasel Zippers, it is generating a significant level of income for Google which it wouldn’t want to lose.
When a site submits an application for Google AdSense, they provide a URL and it is evaluated at that time. Weasel Zippers has not changed its format since AdSense approved it four years ago. The conservative news site has failed to produce an adequate amount of “original content” to continue utilizing the Internet advertising tool provided by Google, Google AdSense says. Of course, the claim seems mildly curious given the fact that other aggregator sites around the world use AdSense to generate income.
