President Obama came to Silicon Valley in full campaign mode Thursday, warning guests at a downtown San Jose fundraiser that a Republican victory in the November midterm elections would be a disaster for the country.

“Republicans are patriots, they love their families … but they are operating on a theory that time and again has proven to be wrong,” the president told the crowd of 250 at the Fairmont Hotel. That theory is “if we just reward folks at the top, everybody else will do just fine.”

The president is on a two-day swing through California that includes both fundraising events for Democratic groups and a Friday morning speech on green energy at a Walmart in Mountain View. But for a Democratic president who pollsters say is in serious danger of losing control of both the House and the Senate to Republicans for his final two years in office, the strongest message was to his fellow party members.
