KABUL – At least three militants were killed by their own explosives in Helmand and Paktika provinces while they were trying to plant bombs on roads, Khaama Press reported March 19.

The insurgents were planting improvised explosive devices (IED) in Nawa District, Helmand Province, and in Khoshamand District, Paktika Province, when the bombs detonated prematurely, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.

Separately, security forces defused 23 IEDs discovered in Helmand, Farah, Herat, Khost, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces, the MoI statement said.
