The deportation policy review President Barack Obama announced this week was actually ordered months ago, the president told immigration reform activists at the White House on Friday.

Obama told the group of 17 immigration reformers that had a directed Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to review deportation policies and see what could be done about them “on his first day” as secretary, one official in the meeting said. […]

The president and activists also discussed the idea of an upcoming 90-day window to pass legislation.

“It’s clear that there is a window that he believes is still viable,” said Janet Murguia, president of the National Council of La Raza, who last week dubbed Obama the “deporter-in-chief.” Murguia added: “It’s not clear what the percentages are there, but he does believe that there is a window for the House to act.”
