After being removed more than a dozen times, protesters in Venezuela made their way back to Altamira Square today in Caracas and retook it. Of course though the National Guard in Venezuela came out in much more force than usual with water cannons, its usual teargas and rubber bullets and repelled them ever so slightly.
Alta Mira Square is a central point in a upper-class wealthy neighborhood in Caracas and also provides access to a large highway. Choking that point slow traffic for hours and also makes life difficult for the government. “President” Nicolas Maduro has since said he’s commited to keeping the square free of protests but so far has been unable to do so.
Over three hundred people, mostly college students have been injured in the uprising against Nicolas Maduro and the Bolivarian system in Venezuela which began in February. At least thirty have died as result of asphyxiation from tear gas, rubber bullets or live ammunition.
