The College Park teenager who gunned down two people at the Columbia Mall before killing himself in January had been obsessed with Columbine and had struggled with urges to kill, investigators announced Wednesday.
Nineteen-year-old Darion Marcus Aguilar dressed and armed himself like the Columbine High School shooters, and may even have tried to time the attack to mirror the start of Columbine massacre, at 11:14 a.m., according to new evidence released to the pubic Wednesday.
Seconds before going on his rampage, Aguilar took the time to snap photo of himself and posted it on a social media site Tumblr.
“I had to do this. Today is the day,” he posted. “On previous days I tried this, I woke up with anxiety, regret and hope for a better future. This day I didn’t. I woke up felt no emotions, no empathy, no sympathy.”
Police said he then exited a Zumiez store dressing room and shot and killed employees Brianna Benlolo, 21, and Tyler Johnson, 25, and killed himself. Police found no evidence that he knew his victims.
