In Chile today, VP Biden was asked what he thought about the situation in Venezuela and his responses are sad and bizarre.
“To fight peaceful protesters with force and in some cases armed militias, limiting the freedom of press and assembly (…) is not up to the robust standards of democracy we have in most of our hemisphere,” Biden said in an interview published today by the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.”
But here’s the one that REALLY grinds my gears:
“The situation in Venezuela reminds me of the past, when strongmen ruled through violence and oppression, and human rights, hyperinflation, shortages and extreme poverty caused havoc on the peoples of the hemisphere,” Instead, he [Maduro] should listen to the Venezuelan people, and look at the example of those leaders who resisted oppression in the Americas, or risk repeating the injustices against which they fought so bravely,” he added.
What the hell is Joe talking about? Sound off in the comments if you know or have a translator.
