On Monday, the host and guests on MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow Daily discussed a proposal in Kansas to allow teachers and parents to spank children in their care, a proposal which did not pass a legislative committee.
During that conversation, Now host Alex Wagner steered the conversation back toward a proposed law in Arizona which would make it legal for businesses to refuse service to gays and lesbians if it violates a business owner’s religious beliefs. She equated that law to “Jim Crow laws,” with the distinction that it was discriminating on the basis of sexual preference and not skin color.
I think that it’s deeply worrisome that this is even something that’s being suggested,” Wagner said. “If you substitute the sexual orientation for skin color, these are Jim Crow laws.”
