Republicans took control of both the House and Senate in 1994, so yes, we’re working on it Harry.

(Politico) — Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday he wants to hear President Barack Obama give a “long-range view” in his policy speech Wednesday that can restore the fiscal balance “of the Clinton years.”

Reid, who will meet with Obama tomorrow before the president makes his address, told reporters Tuesday what he’d like to hear the president say.

“What I hope the president would do is give us a long-range view, where we have to stop giving insurance subsidies to oil companies whose former chief executives say we shouldn’t giving them to anyway,” Reid said. “I think we should do a lot more to stop shipping jobs overseas. I think we have to look at entitlements — I have no problem with the president doing that.”

The president’s address is a prelude to a larger fiscal debate on Capitol Hill over raising the nation’s debt ceiling, and how to fund the government in 2012 and beyond.

Reid emphasized that he didn’t believe Obama’s plan needs to change social security, a position he’s long held, and said that lawmakers “have to look at revenues” and create “a balance” between savings and generating revenues.
