They are filing charges for a toy gun? Are you kidding me?
FLINT, MI — Prosecutors have filed juvenile charges against two 11-year-old Flint students after they allegedly took a toy gun to an elementary school.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton’s office filed the petitions Tuesday, Feb. 18, following the Feb. 5 incident at Doyle-Ryder Elementary School.
They are not being named because they are charged as juveniles.
The boys are charged with disturbing the peace after they were arrested at the school around 8:45 a.m. Feb. 5. The charges are misdemeanors that carry a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail.
The gun was inoperable, according to Leyton.
Flint School Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins said a student at the school told an adult about the gun and a liaison officer arrested the two boys.
No other information was immediately available on the incident.
