New York, N.Y. – A Pittsford area man was arrested in Manhattan, early Friday after the Monroe County Sheriff’s office filed a report for a missing person Thursday night.
Benjamin Smith was reported missing by his mother after she found a note Smith left her.
“I’m going to work for George W. Bush and the pentagon,” the note read. “I have to slay a dragon and Barbara Bush is mine.”
Smith, who police say appeared to be fixated on Barbara Bush, was arrested Friday morning in Manhattan for making threats against former President George W. Bush.
Smith was found in his car armed with a rifle, a machete, and gasoline.
When he was arrested, police say that Smith yelled “Bush will get his.”
Smith was tracked to Manhattan by Secret Service agents.
“I am divorced and not currently seeing anyone, but I am working on a relationship with Barbara Bush,” Smith said when he was asked by investigators about his marital status. Barbara Bush lives in New York City, but the former president does not and was not in the city this week.
