I know personally I’ve been losing sleep at the thought of Obama not receiving his $400,000 salary on time. OK, maybe not.
(The Hill) — Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) Tuesday to discuss a bill that would stop members of Congress and the president from being paid in case of a government shutdown.
Boxer’s legislation has passed the Senate but stalled in the House. . . .
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) also scolded Boxer at the time for presenting an amendment that he said was unconstitutional.
Leahy pointed out that the Constitution explicitly states that the president’s salary “shall neither be increased nor diminished during the period for which he shall have been elected.”
“The Constitution specifically prohibits that,” Leahy told Boxer.
