The host of The Cycle on Wednesday expressed deep concern with the rising level of poverty and the inequality of incomes which they said perpetuates that indigence. Circling back to the 1960s when Lyndon Johnson initiated the War on Poverty, host Ari Melber observed that this is a dated term and that few politicians would or should be comfortable using the term “war” in a positive fashion. “But there’s another side active and fighting a war on minimum wage, a war on unions, and that decreased the amount of power that the little guy in this country has,” Touré continued.
“It was an era where Democrats used the term ‘war’ as a positive moral force,” Melber observed. “I can’t think of any politician who would use ‘war’ that way, which shows you how much has changed in 50 years.”
