Evander Holyfield faces calls to be thrown out of Celebrity Big Brother after likening homosexuality to a ‘handicap’, insisting on the Channel 5 reality show that people choose to be gay.
Summoned to the Diary Room, the 51-year-old was told that his language was offensive after remarks made to fellow housemate Luisa Zissman after she asked whether many boxers have come out.
But the ticking off has not satisfied viewers discussing the programme on social media, with many calling for the former world heavyweight boxing champ to be booted off the show.
CBB spin-off show presenter Rylan was among those to let rip on Twitter, branding Holyfield’s comments as “disgusting” – before apparently deleting his reaction.
Responding to Apprentice runner-up Luisa who said that openness about sexuality was good “because it is normal”, born-again Christian Evander shot back: “That ain’t normal”.
With Luisa suggesting that they should not have such a conversation, the Alabama-born ex-slugger insisted that he wanted to explain.
“If you were born and your leg were turned this way – what would you do? You go to the doctor and get it fixed back right?” Holyfield said.
