KINGS PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – The song “Silent Night” is at the heart of a concert controversy on Long Island.
Kings Park schools officials removed several religious references, including “Holy infant” and “Christ the Savior,” from the popular Christmas carol before a student concert last week, WCBS 880′s Mike Xirinachs reported.
The intent was not to offend non-Christians, but the change upset others.
“I’m not too happy with that, it’s kind of insulting,” parent Robert Dowd said.
“There’s been a lot of changes in the schools and I don’t agree with them,” one man said.
“It’s kind of embarrassing that they would do something like that,” another man said.
