de Blasio didn’t bother to show up and decided he’s criticize a guy hundreds of miles away on vacation?

Bill de Blasio said that unlike Mayor Bloomberg, he would have gone to the site of Sunday’s fatal Metro-North derailment in the Bronx.

“For me, it would be, generally speaking, important to be there,” de Blasio said Monday, adding that while it was appropriate for Gov. Cuomo to take the lead since the MTA is a state agency, “My instinct in these things is to be present even if the city is not the lead. Obviously it’s a bit of a case by case situation. But in this case I would have been there.”

Bloomberg was not present for a series of briefings at the crash site that featured Cuomo and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, and only surfaced Sunday night when he visited victims at area hospitals. His spokesman did not answer questions Sunday or Monday about his whereabouts.

He was spotted playing golf in Bermuda hours after the crash occurred, the Wall Street Journal reported. Bloomberg often decamps for the island on weekends.

De Blasio declined to directly criticize Bloomberg. “I’ll let the current mayor speak for himself about his choice,” he said.
