Some of you may have noticed the webserver restarting, being unavailable or just generally sucking for a few seconds a day. This has to do with the fact that I’ve been playing around with some improvements to the blog for the last week and a half with regard to caching, javascript and image loading.

A lot of you have complained for a while about the load time threads with higher counts of images take to load. I hear that. I second and third that. Over the last week I’ve been testing some things namely NGINX and Cloudflare caching and other forms of CDN. Tonight we’re going to throw the switch and hopefully it will work unlike Healthcare.gov (which thankfully now can be reached via your 14.4 Viking USA modem on BBS).

Things that are changing (which may or may not mean anything to you)

* WordPress 3.7.1 (OMG FINALLY)
* NGINX
* MySQL 5.5 (for greater utilization of multi-core)
* CloudFlare CDN

With all of that being said.  The site will be down for about a forty five minutes tonight from around 12:01am EST and remain down till around 12:45am EST

Most, if not all of these changes are transparent and mean very little to anyone.  Notice bugs? Want a pizza roll? Hate Rick Berman? e-mail me: defendwallst[at]gmail.com
