M. Night Shyamalan, film maker of “The Sixth Sense” is out pushing his recently published book, “I Got Schooled”, which is focused on education.
NY Post notes this quote from the author as he spoke to other wealthy liberals:
“In America, we’re actually educating our kids very well… but just the white kids,” Shyamalan said. “If you pull out schools in which 85 percent of students qualify for a free meal, which are predominantly African-American and Hispanic, the data show that the rest of the kids are being taught better in America than anywhere else in the world. Countries like Finland teach their white kids well, and we teach our white kids better.”
Shymalan of course sees a difference but draws the wrong conclusion, seeing, “Racism!”.
The answer of course is quite simple and insidious. The areas to which he refers are bastions of liberal Democratic policies, particularly teachers unions. The teachers unions don’t allow getting rid of bad teachers or improvements that might push them, and use their weight with Democrats to put down any reasonable alternatives, such as charter schools, which are pushed by parents to save their children. Thus you leave African-American/Hispanic children to wallow in cesspools of bad education for generations.
Shymalan, who is not white, had the ability to go to good private schools. Strangely, the racism factor didn’t effect his access to education.
Surburban public schools, charter schools and private schools, all give more home control to the parents, who have more power and are able to fight for programs to benefit their children, and the unions don’t hold the sway they do in the Democratic run cities. Many cities have had money and assistance poured in, but pour it down a never-ending hole of bad management and pay-offs to unions.
Meanwhile Michelle Obama is focused on stealing food out of the mouths of the poor in her fight against obesity….
