In my opinion bringing this bill up for a vote is a bad idea. Obama has already vowed to veto it, all this is doing is giving Democrats up for re-election the much needed luxury of telling their constituents they voted for a bill to undue the damage from Obamacare (most of whom voted for it).
House Democrats expect dozens of their members to vote for a Republican bill that would allow health insurance companies to continue selling plans canceled under Obamacare through 2014, the first test of support on Capitol Hill since the law’s disastrous rollout.
Senior Democratic aides say between 40 and 50 of their members might support the bill, penned by House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.). The bill is expected on the floor Friday. It’s a massive show of disloyalty to President Barack Obama, but aides expected the defections to be far higher. Upton’s bill would allow individuals whose insurance has been cancelled to keep their plans.
The defections are even more significant, because Obama’s White House Thursday night vowed to veto the bill, saying it “threatens the health security of hard working, middle class families.”
Update: Note to the GOP, listen to Admiral Ackbar. It’s a trap!
