Via Politico:
“Narrow base issues”? Yup, because limited government that doesn’t rip off the people is a “narrow base issue”. Not too much media bias there. “He stood astride the Republican Party”. Not even going to go there. But the only fascination the media has with Christie is only in him sticking it to Conservative Republicans. They are trying to make him the putative nominee against Hillary, and then they will kick the spit out of him, if it came to that.
Our colleague Lucy McCalmont reports on Time’s executive editor defending the controversial cover, which pictures a profile of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie with the headline “The Elephant in the Room”:
“Well, he’s obviously a big guy. He’s obviously a big Republican. But he’s also done a really huge thing here this week,” Duffy said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” when asked what was meant by the headline. “He stood astride the Republican Party and said, ‘Stop. We don’t have to make our whole appeal about narrow base issues.’ And that campaign showed it with the demographics you talked about.”
The cover has come under fire for what many saw as a non-so-subtle jab to Christie’s weight. However, Duffy instead listed the other “really big” things Christie achieved in his re-election for governor on Tuesday.
