Oh goodie! Just want people want, a retread of the second worst President in history. Fortunately, it’s been a pretty resolutely red state in terms of Governor choices.

(Reuters) – A grandson of former-U.S.-President Jimmy Carter plans to run next year as a Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia, an office once held by his grandfather on his path to the White House, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Thursday.

Jason Carter, who serves in the state senate, told the paper he would challenge Republican Governor Nathan Deal in a state that has not had a Democratic governor in 12 years.

He said he planned to formally announce his candidacy on Thursday and that his campaign would focus on ways to improve the state’s education system and economy.

He is the second relative of formerly high-profile politicians from Georgia to announce a run for office in 2014. Michelle Nunn, daughter of ex-U.S.-Senator Sam Nunn, earlier this year said she would be a candidate for the seat her father once held.

Both Democrats are expected to face an uphill battle in a state that is solidly Republican.

Carter, 38, has served in the Georgia Senate since 2010. Prior to working as an attorney at a business litigation firm, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa.
