A Taliban militant who was attempting to plant a mine on a road in Khanabad district of the northern Kunduz province lost his life as the explosive device went off prematurely on Monday, police said.

“A Taliban militant who wanted to plant a mine on a road in Khanabad district this morning to target security forces, was killed as the mine exploded accidently,” district police chief, Abdul Manan told Xinhua.

Taliban militants who are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombings to target government interests have yet to make comment on the deadly incident.
