At least seven Taliban insurgents, including a high-profile leader, were killed and six others wounded in an explosion in Faryab Province, northern Afghanistan.

“A group of Taliban insurgents brought a number of bombs to a house in Khwaja Kimti village of Qaisar district, and wanted to plant them in different parts of the district on the roadsides,” Sayed Masood, spokesperson for the police chief office of Faryab told Anadolu Agency.

“The bombs exploded in the same house” killing seven insurgents, he added, noting that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon.

Mullah Ibrahim, a top commander of the Taliban, was among those killed, he said.

“I think the group brought about 6 or 7 bombs to the house, given the magnitude of the blast which was easily heard in the farer areas” he said.
