Anyone doubt for a second Democrats would pass a law mandating the change of name if they had the ability to do so?
Via The Hill:
A trio of lawmakers lambasted Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder and said it’s only a matter of time before the team changes its name.
In an interview with The Hill, Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and Dels. Eni Faleomavaega (D-American Samoa) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) described their efforts aimed at changing the team’s name.
McCollum called it a “slur” and said Snyder is “in denial.” Faleomavaega said the National Football League should intervene and Holmes Norton expressed confidence that Snyder’s hand will be forced, citing trademark law.
President Obama recently said that if he were the owner of the team, he would consider changing the name.
Earlier this year, 10 legislators sent a letter to Snyder to change the name. Snyder has not responded to the letter.
Snyder has pushed back, telling USA Today that he would “never change the name…NEVER — you can use caps.”
