President Obama complimented the afro of New York mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio’s (D) son Tuesday night at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

Obama said he sported a similar hairstyle in the 1970’s but admitted that he never got it quite as balanced as de Blasio’s son, Dante.

“We are thrilled with Bill,” Obama said at the New York fundraiser to laughter. “His son, Dante, who has the same hairdo I had back in 1978. Although I have to confess, my afro was never that good. It was a little unbalanced.”

De Blasio’s 15-year-old son gained prominence after starring in a crucial ad for his father during the primary that many credit in helping to propel de Blasio to the lead for the Democratic nomination.
