Nearly 30 people, mostly militants, were killed and several others wounded in clashes and bombings across Afghanistan, the authorities said Monday.

One Taliban militant was killed and two injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) they were planting along a main road to target security forces went off prematurely in Takhtabad area of Shindand district of western Herat province early Monday morning.

The injured were arrested by the police and shifted to a nearby hospital, the provincial police said in a statement.
