Famed liberal Bill Maher is back to his old habits again, bashing Republicans’ efforts to stymie the Affordable Care Act and comparing their repeated attempts to do so to that of a “coke addict’s obsession” on his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Joined by The Daily Beast’s David Frum, comedian Joy Behar and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Maher and his panelists discussed the GOP’s efforts to defund the Affordable Care Act through a continuing resolution, which passed the House on Friday. In addition to moving closer to shutting down the federal government to foil the President’s healthcare law, Maher noted House Republicans’ efforts to repeal it more than 40 times.

“The House Republicans, led by the Tea Party I think, are holding hostage — and I don’t mean that in a snarky way, I’ve heard them use that phrase themselves, I’ve heard Mitch McConnell say that — are holding hostage both the government, they’re threatening to shut that down, and the world economy, if they don’t vote for the debt ceiling increase, because they have this coke addict’s obsession with repealing Obamacare,” Maher said.
