Earlier this week, I asked you to sign a petition at MoveOn calling on President Obama to meet with Iran’s President Rouhani next Tuesday when they’re both at the United Nations General Assembly. If the two Presidents meet, it could help thaw relations between the two countries. For thirty years the U.S. has mainly acted like Iran has cooties and might contaminate us if we meet with them. On Tuesday, President Obama can turn that around.
I have good news. That petition now has more than 40,000 signatures! You can see the petition and share it here:
We’re going to be delivering the petition in the next few days. Judging from press speculation today, I would put the odds of an Obama-Rouhani meeting next Tuesday at better than 50/50.
Meanwhile, the Ploughshares Fund has released a funny video promoting peace, starring Iranian-American comedian Maz Jobrani and Jewish-American comedian Elon Gold.
