Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) said on Thursday that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is “caving in to his right-wing lunatic fringe” at every opportunity.

Speaking on the Bill Press Show, Israel also accused Boehner of being more concerned with keeping his speakership than keeping the economy going.

“Every time that Speaker Boehner has had a choice between moving the country forward and working with Democrats, or caving in to his right-wing lunatic fringe, he’s selected option B: Cave in to the right-wing lunatic fringe,” he said. “That’s not leadership. He’s more concerned with keeping the gavel than he is keeping the economy running.”

Israel’s comments come as Republicans prepare to vote for a government funding measure that defunds ObamaCare. The bill is virtually certain to fail in the Senate.
