Same “racist” country that made Kravitz rich and famous.
Via Politico:
Singer and actor Lenny Kravitz says while the election of President Barack Obama did not mean there was no longer racism in America, and his movie “The Butler” comes out at an interesting time for race relations.
Speaking to MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist, Kravitz was asked about the election of President Barack Obama, and the idea that a “magic wand” had been waved and America was past race.
“It just isn’t so, but I think a lot of people wanted it to be so. And at the time I was touring in Europe, and that was the question I got every day when I was being interviewed: ‘So America is not racist anymore,’ and that’s not the fact,” Kravitz said.
The film is about a black butler who served eight presidents in the White House. Kravitz, who plays another White House butler in the film, said that when there’s progress, some people want to hold on to old ways of thinking, and that can cause tension.
“We have a great amount of racial unrest in this country, we all know that, but with each generation we get better. And this movie is coming out at a very interesting time, with all that that’s going on, with the Trayvon Martin case, etc., etc,” Kravitz said.
