A Bangladeshi man who schemed to detonate a 9,000-pound bomb at the Federal Reserve Building in lower Manhattan last year blamed his murderous plot on a childhood stammer and an unfaithful girlfriend, court documents state.
Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis was arrested last October after he worked with undercover agents posing as terrorists to level the structure. He is slated to be sentenced in Brooklyn federal court tomorrow.
Nafis wrote a remorseful letter explaining the roots of his violent plans before explaining that he has come to love the United States — right down to the film “American Pie.”
Of course, it wasn’t so much the stammer, it was his jihad affliction…
As he noted about wanting a big explosive:
“I don’t want something that’s like, small. I just want something big. Something very big … that will shake the whole country, that will make America, not one step ahead, change of policy, and make one step ahead, for the Muslims … that will make us one step closer to run the whole world.”
and
The FBI cites a written statement obtained from Nafis in which he said he wanted to “destroy America” and determined that the best way to achieve that goal was to target the economy. He also referenced quotes from “our beloved Sheikh Osama bin Laden.”
CAIR, of course, called it “entrapment”:
