Hmm…a staunch critic of the Muslim Brotherhood assassinated in Benghazi, another sign of our administration’s failure to stop the growth and influence of Al-Qaeda in Libya.

Via Libya Herald:

Benghazi, 26 July 2013:

A lawyer and political activist, Abdulsalam Musmari, who was one the founders of the 17 February Coalition, was assassinated today in Benghazi after Jumaa prayers.

Musmari was shot at around 1.45 pm as he walked home from the Abu Ghoula mosque in Benghazi’s Birkah district.

“He had a bullet directly in his heart,” spokesman for Benghazi Joint Security Forces (BJSF) Mohamed Hejazi told the Libya Herald. “This was a very accurate attack and the BJSF thinks that it could have been the work of a sniper.”

There were no witnesses to the attack.

Musmari is reported to have been a strong critic of the Muslim Brotherhood. In 2011, he claimed to have received a death threat after criticising the role of Islamists in the NTC and the Union of Revolutionary Fighters. In an interview, he said: “Please deliver this message to those who want to kill me: ‘Let’s talk’.”

Musmari also pointed out that during the 2011 revolution Libyans opposed to Qaddafi all had the same cause . At the time he said: “We need a constitution that gives rights to all factions of society.”
