In a press conference just moments ago, former congressman Anthony Weiner addressed new allegations that he engaged in further sexually explicit Internet conversations after his resignation from Congress, which was prompted by a scandal over lewd text and picture messages he’d sent to women. Weiner said, “To some degree, with 49 days left until primary day, perhaps I’m surprised that more things didn’t come out sooner.” He downplayed the significance of the revelation that he had continued his habits through last summer, saying that “in many ways things aren’t much different from the way they were yesterday.” […]

Appearing alongside his wife, Huma Abedin, Weiner called himself “pleased and blessed that she has given me a second chance,” and said, ”for the past several months I’ve been asking New Yorkers to also give me a second chance.” He apologized to the women who received his sexually explicit messages “for any inconvenience or embarrassment they’ve caused.”
