An offer they can’t refuse.

First lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday joined the White House’s campaign to build support for Obamacare, as she urged a major Hispanic advocacy group to help spread the word as state exchanges prepare to open.

“Simply passing the Affordable Care Act was not the goal. The goal is to get folks to sign up for the insurance so that they have the care they need to stay healthy,” she said in New Orleans, at the annual meeting of National Council of La Raza. “And as leaders in our communities, we are gonna need your help to make this happen.”

But it was the first lady’s foray into the implementation of the health law that was new, coming as the White House ramps up its efforts to inform uninsured or individually insured Americans about how to register for state exchanges, which open on Oct. 1.

“The minute you get back home from this conference, we need you to get out there and educate everyone you know about what health reform means for them. And I’m talking about making sure they understand the real facts,” she said, explaining that signups for online accounts begin on July 31 and that registration for insurance begins two months later.
