Even worse for the Gang of Ocho, a majority favor the House chopping their bill into pieces and voting on them as separate pieces of legislation.
Via The Hill:
While Americans have previously voiced support for key tenants of the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform bill — including a pathway to citizenship and increased border security measures — there is no overwhelming support for the bill itself, according to a new survey.
The poll, by the Washington Post and ABC News, found just 46 percent in favor of the poll, with 44 percent saying they opposed it. Moreover, while 19 percent said they supported the bill “strongly,” three in 10 say they “strongly” oppose the legislation.
Moreover, a majority of Americans – 53 percent — say they want the House to break the Senate plan into pieces for separate votes. President Obama has cautioned against this approach, warning that it could prolong or prevent the passage of key elements of the bill. But just under a third of respondents say the House should give the Senate legislation an up-or-down vote.
