Rep. Ryan Winkler, who represents Minnesota’s Golden Valley, didn’t like the Supreme Court decision today on the Voting Rights Act.
He didn’t like it so much he let loose with this wonderful tweet:
Oh my.
When challenged on the tweet, he deleted it, forgetting the immutable rule that Twitter is forever.
Winkler thereafter tried to justify it, digging himself a bigger hole:
I didn't think it was offensive to suggest that Justice Thomas should be even more concerned about racial discrimination than colleagues.

Then he “sort of” apologized:
But if such a suggestion is offensive, I apologize.

Finally when challenged by Aaron Rupar, who writes for an alternative weekly in Minnesota, he admitted to being completely ignorant:
@atrupar I did not understand "Uncle Tom" as a racist term, and there seems to be some debate about it. I do apologize for it, however.

Congratulations, Minnesota, you’ve got a live one on your hands. Wish you luck, you will need it….
