Ed Markey fun fact: There is no gun violence in Massachusetts, except there is, plenty of it.

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) characterized Massachusetts as “the leader” on gun control on the eve of the state’s Senate special election.

“Massachusetts is not West Virginia. We’re not Pennsylvania. We’re not the laggard, we’re the leader,” Markey said on MSNBC on Monday. “So yeah, we need background checks…but we go further than that. We don’t know why assault weapons should be on the streets.”

Markey added that assault weapons and high capacity magazines “both should be banned,” noting that Gomez supports both.

“I want to go down to fight the NRA on the issue of assault weapons and high capacity magazines,” Markey continued.
