Once a Black Panther, always a Black Panther.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) on Wednesday called Sen. Mark Kirk’s proposal to arrest Chicago gang members en masse to deal with the city’s crime problems an “upper-middle-class, elitist white boy solution to a problem he knows nothing about,” according to a report.

Rush’s comments came in a phone interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. Kirk, a Republican, had suggested the federal government spend $30 million to battle gangs and use part of that money to “crush a major urban gang” like the Gangster Disciples, the largest gang in the Chicago area.

“It’s a sensational, headline-grabbing, empty, simplistic, unworkable approach,” Rush told the paper, adding that the $30 million would be better spent on job training and creation.

“I am really very upset with Mark,” Rush said, adding that Kirk’s approach was an “upper-middle-class, elitist white boy solution to a problem he knows nothing about.”
