Via The Hill:
Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is bringing back a bill to ban most abortions in the District of Columbia after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Franks, a member of the Judiciary Committee, reintroduced the legislation Friday after an almost identical measure failed to pass the House last year under a suspension of the rules.
That procedure requires two-thirds of the chamber to support a bill in order for it to pass.
Anti-abortion-rights activists praised Franks on Friday for attempting to curb abortion in D.C., where the practice is permitted throughout pregnancy.
The Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List tied the District’s policy to the grisly murder trial of Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor accused of killing several infants in Philadelphia.
“Congress must act immediately to protect children from the Gosnells of our nation,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.
