Big shocker-well, maybe not so much. Have I mentioned before how much I dislike the play acting of this “mother”?
Via USA Today:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Two government officials tell The Associated Press that U.S. intelligence agencies added the Boston bombing suspects’ mother to a federal terrorism database about 18 months before the attack.
Officials say this was done after Russia contacted the CIA late in 2011 with concerns that the now-dead suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and his mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, were religious militants about to travel to Russia. The CIA asked that Tsarnaev and Tsarnaeva be added to a classified intelligence database called TIDE. Being on the database does not automatically mean the U.S. suspects a person of terrorist activity and does not automatically subject a person to surveillance, security screening or travel restrictions.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation
In another non-surprising development, turns out the parents aren’t coming to the United States to “fight for the truth” (or to talk to the FBI), despite all the talk.
Via Daily Mail:
The parents of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects have left their home in Dagestan for another part of Russia and the suspect’s father is no longer planning to fly to the U.S. later this week to bury his eldest son and cooperate with the FBI investigation into the attacks.
The suspects’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, told CNN that that her husband, Anzor Tsarnaev, is indefinitely delaying his trip to the U.S. because of health reasons. She claimed she had to call an ambulance for him on Thursday but did not elaborate on what happened.
Zubeidat told Fox News that on Friday he is was planning to go to a Moscow hospital to treat ‘nerves, head, stomach and elevated blood pressure.’
She was never planning to accompany her husband to the U.S. because she faces felony shoplifting charges here.
Members of the House Intelligence Committee are using the term “person of interest” with reference to the mother:
The mother of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects is a “person of interest” to federal authorities seeking to learn who radicalized one or both of her sons, according to lawmakers, and a separate report said she was on a federal terrorism database some 18 months before the attack.
Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, who had reportedly become more militant in her Muslim faith around the same time as her son, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was added to the classified intelligence database known by the acronym TIDE at the CIA’s request. Two key lawmakers said authorities now want to know if she helped put her son, who died a week ago following a shootout with police in Massachusetts, on the road to radicalism.
“She is a person of interest that we’re looking at to see if she helped radicalize her son, or had contacts with other people or other terrorist groups,” Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Md., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told reporters.
