Update: “Angel of death” would be more appropriate.
(The Hill) — The father of the suspected Boston Marathon bomber who is being hunted by police said his son is “an angel” and an “intelligent boy.”
Anzor Tsarnaev told the Associated Press on Friday that his son Dzhokar Tsarnaev is a medical school student.
“My son is a true angel,” Tsarnaev said via telephone from Makhachkala, Russia. “Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here.”
(WaTi) — Boston bombing suspect Dzhohar Tsarnaev said on his Russian social media page that his world view was “Islam,” while his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev talked about being “very religious” and complained there “are no values anymore,” according to an English-language Russian newspaper.
The Moscow Times story posted online gave new details about the two brothers believed to have carried out the deadly attack at the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a clash with police Thursday night, while his brother is the subject of a massive manhunt Friday morning.
According to the Moscow Times account, Dzhohar Tsarnaev belonged to two Chechnya-related groups on the Vkontakte social media network, a Russian-language version of Facebook. He last logged on to the site at 5:04 a.m. Moscow time, which would be 9:04 p.m. Thursday night in Boston.
Update: IJU is a Uzbek jihadi group based in Pakistan.
Update: CAIR continues to do damage control, they’ve scheduled a press conference. Probably to warn people not to link this to Islam.
(TPM) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations has scheduled a noon press conference in Washington, DC with national and local Muslim leaders to discuss the Boston marathon bombing and the subsequent shooutout and ongoing manhunt involving two suspects implicated by authorities in the attack.
“We must remain united as a nation as we face those who would carry out such heinous and inexcusable crimes,” CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a statement. “We thank local, state and national law enforcement authorities for their diligence in bringing the perpetrators to justice and offer condolences to the loved ones of the officers killed and injured in efforts to detain the suspects.”
Update: Unreal! Chuck Todd halts guest from speculating terror suspects motivated by jihad.
Update: Their fourth victim is being overlooked in all the breaking news. Prayers and condolences to the family of Sean Collier.
A much-loved MIT campus police officer with less than two years on the force is the Boston Bombers’ fourth victim, authorities said.
Sean Collier, 26, of Somerville Mass., was shot multiple times in his squad car by the bloodthirsty brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev around 10:20 p.m. after the pair attempted to rob a 7-Eleven, according to police and news reports.
Collier, who’d joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology police force in January 2012, was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Update: Obama admin already trying to downplay Muslim connection.
(Politico) — Secretary of State John Kerry wouldn’t weigh in Friday on the implications of the apparent Chechen ties of the suspects in the Boston bombings as he took questions from reporters.
“At this point law enforcement officers are carrying out an ongoing investigation and, frankly, they’re at some critical stages here. And it would just be entirely inappropriate for me to be commenting on the tick-tock around the larger issues outside of it,” he said at the State Department.
Pressed again, he declined to comment. “I’m not going to get into speculation, I’m not going to deal with a hypothetical.”
Update: Ramzan Kadyrov has been moving Chechnya rapidly towards fundamentalist Islam.
(Foreign Policy) — Chechnya’s pro-Russian strongman leader Ramzan Kadyrov has just posted a statement about the Boston marathon bombing suspects on Instagram, his social media outlet of choice. Here’s the Google-translated version:
The tragic events took place in Boston. The blast killed people. We have previously expressed their condolences to the people of the city and the people of America. Today, as reported by the media, while trying to arrest a Tsarnaea was killed. It would be logical if he was detained and investigated, found all the circumstances and the degree of his guilt. Apparently, the special services needed by all means to calm the result of society. Any attempt to make the connection between Chechnya and Tsarnaevys if they are guilty, [is] in vain. They grew up in the United States, their attitudes and beliefs were formed there. It is necessary to seek the roots of evil in America. From terrorism to fight the whole world. We know better than anyone else. We wish recovery to all the victims and share the feelings of sorrow Americans. # # Boston # bombing investigation.
